Advanced Strategies - Price Fluctuations By Time of Day

Naturally, the key to making more gold as a Jewelcrafter is finding uncut gems for really cheap. What time might this be? Naturally, when the supply is high and the demand is low. But when is that?

Best Time to Buy - 5 - 9 AM Server Time

Turns out that raw materials are cheapest by far early in the morning (server time). For the period from 5-9 AM server time, prices for everything on the auction house tend to be at their lowest.

Why? Gold farmers play around the clock and are always listing things on the auction house. However, they are most likely to be farming during normal working hours for their country (likely 8 am - 8 pm).

What happens is they will then list the raw materials they farm (99% of gold farmers do not bother to craft) at undercut prices (goldfarmers always undercut) in the middle of the night / morning when no one is online and playing.

Since no one is online buying things but different groups of goldfarmers are all listing raw materials and undercutting each other, the price of virtually everything dips overnight. By searching for materials in the morning, you can usually get a much better price.

On my server, gems tend to be a solid 10-20 gold cheaper in the AM hours than in the evening. Not only that, but there are more of them (sometimes there are no listed materials on the AH).

Advanced Strategies - Price Fluctuations By Day of Week

Just as prices on gems tend to be low in the morning and high at night, there is also a fluctuation in prices. The keys are once again supply and demand - let's apply this to gems:

- Supplies are highest (and prices are lowest) when people are farming the materials (ore).

- Demand is highest when people are getting new gear that requires gems. Large spikes of new gear enters the server when players raid and when arena points are awarded for the week.

Best time to Buy - Weekends

I find that weekends are the best times to buy raw materials. Little raiding and arenas are done on the weekends, as people's schedules are too unreliable on the weekend to form a schedule around the weekend. 

Players who do log on tend to get a lot of their farming out of the way for the week, especially those who raid regularly or otherwise just do not know how to farm gold. Gold farmers work 7 days a week, so they are still contributing to the server's supply as well.

Since more people are farming than normal on the weekends and less people are getting gear (no raids and far from arena reset), prices dip on the weekends as supplies rise and demand falls.
