World of Warcraft Death Knight Guide

Click here to get WoW CrusherThe Death Knight was added to World of Warcraft with the release of Wrath of the Lich King. This character is considered world of warcraft's "first hero class", though the Death Knight is not necessarily better than other classes in world of warcraft.

In this world of warcraft death knight guide, I will discuss death Knight specs, gear, and PvP strategies.

Death Knight Basics

Death Knights are powered by runes. Runes are a unique system that is quite similar to the Rogue's energy system. Death Knight's Start with 2 Blood, Shadow, and Unholy Runes.

When you perform an ability, you consume some of these runes, which then regenerate 10 seconds after you used them last. Certain abilities require certain runes, so using some abilities (like Scourge Strike) might prevent you from using others (like Icy Touch).

Death Knights have 3 specs to choose from, and at first glance, it may not be inherently obvious what each tree specializes in. There are three specs to choose from:

Blood Death Knights specialize in physical DPS (damage per second). They deal loads of physical damage and also have a variety of self-healing abilities. As a result, this class is the most popular PvE (instances and raids) spec for DPS. This spec is also good in PvP, particularly as part of "cleave teams".

Cleave teams are 3v3 and 5v5 arena teams which are physical dps heavy (2 physical dps in 3v3 and 3 in 5v5) and are able to quickly kill casters. This set-up works well if your particular battlegroup or current season is caster-heavy.

Frost Death Knights are typically the tank class. This tier has a lot of talents for damage mitigation and a lot of the Death Knight's damage is dealt is magic rather than physical. This works well for tanking because monsters are unable to dodge or parry spells. The Death Knight specializes in tanking bosses that deal a lot of magic damage. The Death Knight is able to handle magic damage better than any other tanking class.

Frot specs also can work in PvP when there are a lot of melee classes you are competing against. Since Frost is primarily magic-based, a build centering around an an ability like Icy Touch will have no problem piercing armor.

Unholy Death Knights are the most balanced and dominant PvP class. Scourge Strike hits for a lot of damage and deals shadow damage. The inherent power of Scourge Strike makes it great for a huge damage burst. With critical hits, two Scourge Strikes followed by a Death Coil can deal a huge amount of damage. Combine this with Silence on the healer for a winning combo.

Death Knight Gear

Offensive Death Knights should focus primarily on strength, crit, and +hit. You will need about 294 (barring talents and buffs and this number will go up with Cataclysm) +hit rating in order to reach the hit cap with a 2-hand weapon. If you are dual wielding, you can almost never get enough +hit.

Tanking Death Knights will need to focus on Stamina primarily. You will also want to reach the defense cap (540 at 80, more with Cataclysm). The Death Knights primary problem while tanking is a low HP total, so be sure to load up on Stamina. Any gear with +dodge is great for 5 and 10-man instances but is not nearly as important for 25 man raids. Focus on stamina first. Additionally, expertise and +hit rating up to the cap will help with threat generation.

In the last part of this World of Warcraft Death Knight guide, I will discuss some great Death Knight PvP tips.

Death Knight PvP Tips

When playing as a Death Knight in World of Warcraft, the number one way you can win more arena games and improve your PvP skills is to change the way you use Death Grip.

Your Death Grip ability is much more than an ability used to catch up to your enemy. It has so many uses!

Use Death Grip to interrupt a critical heal.

Use Death Grip and a snare to pull a DPS class off your healer.

Use Death Grip to interrupt a nuking caster that is blowing up one of your teammates.

Use Death Grip to pull an almost-dead player out of the line of sight of his healer.

Use Death Grip to pull an alive player behind a pillar in larger groups and then burst the enemy down while the healer is out of line of sight.

These are just some of the ways you can use Death Grip to improve your Death Knight play.

That is all for this World of Warcraft Death Knight Guide. If you want to level up your Death Knight as quickly as possible, then check out this guide:
