The druid is the only class in World of Warcraft that can play all four roles: Tanking (Feral), Healing (Restoration), Ranged DPS (Moonkin), and Melee DPS (Feral). In World of Warcraft Druid guide, I will touch on all of these builds, give general gear requirement, and offer up some of the best talent specs.

Druid Basics

Druids are a shape-shifting class that can freely go from caster form (normal) into either Bear, Cat, Travel, Moonkin (Talent), Tree of Life (Talent) or Aquatic form.

  • Bear form is generally used for tanking. It also has a stun and spell interrupt.
  • Cat for melee DPS.
  • Normal mode for healing (especially in PvP). Do not use Tree of Life in arenas.
  • Tree of Life for healing in raids (if you are specced for it).
  • Travel for running away.
  • Moonkin for Caster DPS.
  • Aquatic form is never used (aside from maybe leveling quests).

All forms of Druid use mana in some way. When you shift into Bear form, you get a Rage bar to perform your abilities (like a Warrior), and when shifting into Cat form, you can an energy bar (like a Rogue). Shifting into forms can be mana-intensive. Cancelling a form shift and going back to normal caster mode is free.

In the next part of this World of Warcraft Druid guide, I will be discussing each type of Druid along with the appropriate gear for each spec.

Druid Types

Out of all the Druid types, Restoration Druids and Feral Tanks are by far the most valuable. These types of Druids will have no problems finding groups and are always in high demand.

Restoration Druids specialize in Healing over Time (HoT) effects and efficient healing on multiple single targets. A single Druid can support multiple tanks at the same time by keeping Lifebloom and Rejuvenation running. Additionally, the Tree of Life buff is beneficial for raiding, as a Druid can increase the amount tanks are healed by everyone in the group.

Restoration Druids should focus on +spell power, +spirit, and +intellect. Druids are one of the few healers that does better on +spirit than on +mp/5. Additionally, +crit is not very effective for Druids as many of their heals over time have no use for crit rating. All those Restoration Druids with tons of mp/5 gear need to see this World of Warcraft Druid guide!

Feral tanking Druids are HP (stamina) specialists. They are able to boost their Health up to very high levels. Additionally, they are able to generate a lot of threat on a single target. For this reason, they are very good at taking consistent amounts of damage, however, they do not have shields (as they are Bears), so they cannot block attacks or reflect spells. Bear Druids should focus on stamina and armor (armor value of Leather) above all else. Some DPS stats help maintain threat.

Feral cat Druids are a melee DPS class. These are not a popular class in raids and are even less popular in 5 man groups. If you are interested in leveling a Feral Druid, it is best to play as a tank and play as a Bear tank in order to get Feral DPS gear. You will have a hard time getting groups as a DPS Feral druid.

With that said, Feral Druids of both times have most of the same tier equipment. That is, the Tiered gear piece for both Bear and Cat druids is the same. Melee Druids should focus on +armor penetration, +strength, +attack power, and +crit.

The final Druid spec Moonkin. Moonkins are decent in raids; they give a 5% spell crit bonus to the raid and as a result are well-loved by Mages. In smaller groups they are much less desireable as they have no meaningful crowd control ability. Moonkins should focus on +hit, +crit, and +spell power.

PvP Tips

In the final part of this World of Warcraft Druid guide, I will discuss some good PvP tips that you can use to have an immediate impact on the way you play.

  • Bear form is Perfect for interrupts. Most bad Druids do not use Bear form. Note that you can interrupt heals with Feral Charge and then Bash healers for an extended interrupt. It does not matter what type of Druid you are - use this combo!
  • Use Cyclone to be offensive. For example, when a Paladin bubbles as you are about to kill his partner, Cyclone the partner so he cannot be healed. By the time bubble wears off, Cyclone will be on diminishing returns. At this point, Cyclone the healer and finish off the then finish off the near-dead target.
  • You can use Cyclone in conjunction with the Feral Charge and Bash combination for an incredibly long crowd-control chain.
  • Players in Bear form cannot be mana drained. When you are caught in the open and a Priest is mana burning you, shift into Bear until you can get to a safe spot.

That is it for this World of Warcraft Druid guide. If you are leveling up a Druid, I would recommend playing as Feral regardless of your intentions once you hit the level cap as it is faster.
