World of Warcraft Priest Guide
In World of Warcraft, the Priest is one of the most in-demand classes in the
game. This particular class is arguably the best healer, particularly in 5-man instances. As a healing priest,
you will never have a problem getting a group. In this World of Warcraft Priest guide, I will be covering some
Priest basics along with the best talent specs, stats to focus on, and PvP tips!
Priest Basics
The Priest has three potential specs: Holy, Discipline, and Shadow. Holy Priests are the traditional healers in
Player vs Enemy (PvE) and generally have the most healing output among different types of Priests. Due to their
high healing output, Holy Priests are one of the most in-demand classes in the game.

Shadow Priests are actually damage-dealing casters, who can not only dish out significant amounts of damage but
while doing so also offer great mana-regeneration to casters and light group healing. Shadow Priests morph into
"Shadow Form" to deal bonus damage, but are unable to cast heals in this states.
Due to their great mana-regeneration, healing, and DPS abilities, Shadow Priests are one of the few hybrids
welcome in raids (sometimes in multiple numbers). Shadow Priests may have trouble getting 5-man groups due to a
lack of good Crowd Control ability.
Discipline Priests are an unusual hybrid between Holy and Shadow Priests. These Priests have many of the
offensive and defensive bonuses available to Shadow Priests, but they can also cast heals. The Discipline Priest
also gets a lot of its own unique and powerful abilities which boost both its offensive and defensive capabilities.
For this reason, Discipline is generally the preferred PvP Healing spec for Priests.
In the next part of this World of Warcraft Priest guide, I will be discussing the best types of gear to get.
Priest Gear
Holy Priests should focus on +spell power and spirit (as needed). By far, your main focus should be on +spell
power, as this makes your healing, regenerative, and Power of Word: Shield spells much stronger. Add spirit as
needed to improve mana regeneration. +Spell crit and +mp/5 are okay for Priests, but focus on +spell power and
+spirit as primary stats.
Discipline Priests should focus on +spell power, stamina, resilience, and +spell crit (if playing in PvP).
Depending on your playstyle, +mp/5 may be of some benefit as well (depends on bracket and your own team make-up).
Your main priority is either surviving or healing another player, so output (+spell power and +spell crit) and
defense (+resilience and +stamina) are your main stats.
Shadow Priests should focus on +spell power, +spell hit (up to the hit cap; only need 76 since Shadow Priest get
a lot of +hit from talents), and +spell crit. Other casting stats like +int and +mp/5 are okay but definitely
should not be focused on. All your effort at 80 should be spent getting +76 hit, then focusing on +spell power and
+crit.
In the next part of this World of Warcraft Priest Guide, I will discuss some PvP tips you can use as a Priest to
win games.
Non-Shadow Priest PvP Tips
- The Priest has a lot of inherent offensive abilities. In 2v2 matches, be sure to help your partner secure
kills by casting Smite and Shadow of Word: Death when the enemy is about to die.
- In large matches (3v3 and 5v5), you can actually "deal" a lot of damage by spamming Dispel on a target
about to go down. If you have 2 DPS partners about to finish off a target, dispelling things like Power of
Word: Shield, Blessing of Protection, Blessing of Freedom, Heal over Time spells helps secure kills in a very
noticeable way.
- Be sure to specced to Tank as a PvP Priest. Blessed Recovery can save you a lot of mana and Reflective
Shield can deal a lot of damage in a 2v2. Do not overlook talents like these.
Shadow Priest PvP Tips
- In large group settings, spamming dispel on a target about to die rather than nuking can help if you are
partnered with melee members.
- Shadow Priest damage is inherently burst-prone. Use this to your advantage by fearing a healer and then
moving into a Mind Blast and Shadow of Word: Death combo. This can put the enemy on the defensive really
quickly.
- You will probably be focused on a lot; be ready for it with a lot of resilience gear.
The Priest is one of the strongest classes in the game. By following the strategies and recommendations can go a
long way to improving the way you play your Priest. That is all for now for this World of Warcraft Priest
guide.
