World of Warcraft Shaman Guide
The Shaman is a Hybrid class in World of Warcraft that is capable of playing
three roles: Melee DPS, Caster DPS, and Healer. Throughout the course of this World of Warcraft Shaman guide,
I will be discussing some Shaman basics and PvP tips that can significantly improve your play. I also will go
over some things to consider when deciding to level up a Shaman.
While it is true the Shaman can be play three different roles, they are traditionally preferred as a
Healer, particularly in the small group and raiding settings. In small groups, Enhancement and DPS Shamans are not
popular due to a lack of solid crowd control abilities. Before continuing on with this World of Warcraft Shaman
Guide, I wanted to give you something to think about if you want to level up a Shaman.
In raids, Shamans are highly desirable thanks to Chain Heal, which is a boon to all melee DPS. Players
interested in playing an Enhancement Shaman typically are wanted in groups and 5v5 Arena teams, but will have
trouble finding good 2v2 teams.

My suggestion to you is if you do not have a Shaman leveled up already, pick a "real" dps class if you
want to play a DPS. If you are thinking about leveling up a Shaman for Enhancement, I would recommend
leveling a class like a Rogue or Mage instead, unless you already have a good raiding group and know you they want
you to be a Shaman. That warning aside, on with the World of Warcraft Shaman guide!
Many Restoration (healing) Shamans that have turned to Enhancement, and as a result it can be hard to get a
group! With that said, if you are a very active player, you can make your Shaman highly desireable by setting up a
Dual-Spec (you can switch freely between two builds) with Enhancement and Restoration.
With a dual-spec, on battles where you need a lot of DPS, you can switch to Enhancement, and then on battles
where you need a lot of healing, you can switch to restoration. The only problem is setting up 2 specs takes a lot
of work. Be forewarned, as it is like playing 2 characters, but if you can pull it off you will be highly valuable
to your raiding group.
World of Warcraft Shaman Guide - Basics & Gear
The Shaman has a few key features. First, all Shaman builds use mana for to cast healing spells, do damage, and
if you are enhancement, use special attacks. As a result, if you have no mana, you will not be very
successful!
Enhancement Shamans have a special talent, Shamanistic Rage, which will completely regenerate your
mana bar every minute. As a result, Enhancement Shamans should not focus on any mana-type gear, but rather focus
completely on +strength, +crit, +hit, and +attack power.
Restoration and Elemental Shamans will need regeneration gear. While Restoration Shamans have Mana Tide and
Elemental Shamans have Unrelenting Storm, you will still run out of mana without some +mp/5 gear. Restoration
Shamans are expected to repeatedly cast Chain Heal, and you will need a lot of mana regeneration to do this.
Your other major stats as a Shaman are +spell power and +Crit. Note that Elemental Shamans will still want to
focus primarily on +spell power, +crit, and +hit rather than mp/5 in raids. With raid buffs, it will be easier to
keep your mana pool up. Regardless, mana is a persistent issue in long battles using Elemental Shamans. For this
reason, Elemental Shamans are the least desirable PvE Shaman type.
In the last part of this World of Warcraft Shaman guide, I will be discussing some PvP tips.
Shaman PvP Tips
Shamans are a great PvP class. Here are 4 tips you will always want to comply with!
- Toughness and Improved Ghost Wolf are mandatory talents for ALL PvP Shamans. As a caster, these talents
will help you escape getting focused by Melee units like Warriors. Get these talents so you can escape with
Ghost Wolf.
- As an Enhancement Shaman, be sure you have your target in range before using Shamanistic Rage. Too often I
have seen Shaman getting kited when using this ability, and as a result they end up with no mana for a
minute.
- Try not to use Frost Shock as a snare if possible. Rather, let your partner snare the opponent (if
applicable) so you can use Earth Shock to interrupt healing spells. This is more effective if you are partnered
up with a Rogue or Warrior.
- As a Restoration Shaman, be sure to cast Lightning Bolts when the enemy is pressured. When you are about to
kill another player in an Arena match, your partner is not likely to be taking much damage. During this window,
rather than standing around, start nuking the target that is almost dead. You should end up with a lot of
killing blows!
That is it for this World of Warcraft Shaman guide. If you decide to level up a Shaman, I recommend
two things: firstly, level up as Enhancement, regardless of which type of Shaman you will be once you hit the level
cap. Secondly, I strongly recommend you pick up WoW Crusher, which will tell you exactly what you
need to do in order to get the best gear for your Shaman:
