To reiterate what has already been stated, the longer you farm a zone, the better route you will get via gatherer. After about an hour of farming a zone, you will quickly be able to discern the best path.  

Use the maps provided to get a jump start, but ultimately you will want gatherer. Another reason gatherer helps is that when the server is really laggy, sometimes you have to hang out for a few seconds to get the objects (nodes and herbs) to load. It is best if you are idling on top of a known spawn point rather than part of the recommended path. 

Making Gold By Gathering

To truly make a lot of gold via gathering, it does require some "outside the box" thinking. Gathering can be profitable, and below you will find a lot of easy ways to turn killer profits by gathering. This is especially relevant to low level players.

Double Professions

Currently, you can search for both Herbs and Minerals at the same time on your minimap. This was not the case for the majority of WoW's duration. With this new change, you can actually earn a lot of gold by mining and herbing at the same time.

Farming Herbs and Ores 

As a low level player, one of the easiest things you can do is to farm ore to make gold. You should have no problem getting all the gold you need via Herbalism. Everything is valuable. 

Ore Locations

Copper Ore - Best area is Durotar, following the map marked above. The Drygulch Ravine area literally has 5-6 spawn points active at any given time. With an epic flyer you can get several hundred copper in an hour. 

Tin Ore - Ashenvale is my favorite zone. Nearly all of the mining points are Tin (only a few copper spawns here and there). If you need tin, you should be in this zone.

Herb Locations 

Low level herbs are available in any starting zone in great abundance. See the level 1-80 leveling guide for more details. Maps for Heartblossom, Cinderbloom, and Stormvine can be found in the next section.
